LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An Orange County sheriff's deputy shot in the line of duty earlier this year is expected to be released from the hospital next week.
That's according to a post on the Orange County Sheriff's Department Facebook page.
Deputy Zach Andry has been recovering in a hospital since he was shot four times -- including once in the head -- during a traffic stop in January. During the stop, investigators with Indiana State Police said Andry suspected criminal activity and asked Austin Schepers, 33, to step out of the car. That's when police said Schepers shot the deputy and sped off. Andry was rushed to UofL Health Hospital in Louisville for treatment.
Investigators in Louisville located Schepers in the 3700 block of Wheeler Avenue days after the shooting. LMPD Chief Paul Humphrey said Schepers then fired shots at officers, and multiple LMPD officers and deputies U.S. Marshals returned fire. Schepers died at the scene.
The Facebook post said more details about Andry's release will be made public in the coming days.
